BROTHER GRANVILLE PERERA, DIRECTOR, SBC
BROTHER GRANVILLE PERERA, DIRECTOR, SBC

St. Benedict's College has gained stability with the appointment of Rev. Bro. Granville Perera to the helm of the 138-year old Catholic Institution. Born on 1st November 1952, in Modera, he had his education at De La Salle College and at St. Benedicts College. A keen student and sportsman, he took to club basketball as a teenager playing for VISTWYKE Play Ground in the Western Province 'A Division' tournaments before joining the Junior Novitiate. After completing preliminary training Bro. Granville was sent to India for further Novitiate and donned robes in 1969.

On returning to the Island in 1970, Bro. Granville was posted to De Mazenod College, Kandana as a teacher. In 1976 having followed a two-year teacher training course at Bolawalana he returned to De Mazenod as a teacher and Prefect of Games. He was sent for higher studies to Pakistan where he obtained his M.B. in 1987. On his return to was posted to St. Sebastian's College Moratuwa as its Director.

In a rare display of team spirit uncharacteristic of the present day leaders, he took the College to higher levels of excellence, while earning immense goodwill of all the support bodies concerned. From 1987 to 1993 under his able leadership St. Sebastian's College became a beacon light. Bro Granville's next assignment was the challenging Directorship of De Mazenod College the only co-ed La Sallian High School in the country. For ten years he ensured the rapid and sustained progress rarely seen in our educational scene. De Mazenod College became a shining example of how leadership excellence could transform a good school to an institute of high distinction. Following a distinguished period of service in Kandana Bro. Granville Perera has now been entrusted with the Principal's mantle at St. Benedict's College to bring forth a revolution. With a fine track record in the De La Salle community he is very enthusiastic about taking the college on the fast track to recovery and progress, while placing emphasis on inculcating Christian values. With a big dream, a grand vision and a clear mission the new Director has already set the course in the right direction.

The Benedictine Community extends to Rev. Bro, Director a warm welcome and God's choicest blessings as he assumes the challenging task.
