Benedictine Science Exhibition 2011 - “CUBE” – Conspicuously Utilitarian Benedictine Exhibition
|Minister for Science and Technology- Prof. Tissa Vitharana, ceremonially declared open the Benedictine Exhibition 2011on 15th September 2011 at the College premises, amidst a large gathering of Priests, Lasallian Brothers, Teachers, Students from St. Benedict’s as well as from the surrounding schools, Old Boy’s and well-wishers.|
The exhibition was organized with the objective of helping students transform theoretical knowledge into day to day empirical realities. The mass crowed that flocked the exhibition grounds on all three days was a testimony of the high standards maintained by the exhibitors showcasing their creative abilities and sprouting potentialities which included students from the Primary section up to the Advance Level classes, covering diverse areas of Science, Information Technology and other segments of academic importance. Their efforts were backed by the guidance and expertise of reputed institutions, Organizations and Government bodies such as the Central Bank, The Archeological Department, The Medical faculty of the University of Kelaniya, The Zoological section, the Ministry of Health, NARA, Sri Lanka Telecom and other numerous bodies. Stalls designed especially for School exhibits by the Sri Lanka Army and Air Force also drew crowds at this exhibition. The event also saw the introduction and launching of a generator, and a display of modules of vehicles all powered by Water and fuel, by construction trade award winner 1990 and Electrical Olympic gold medallist, Mr. W. A. Keerthi R. De Silva - Founder and patent of Water Fuel System.
Educational presentations as well as Variety entertainment programmes such as Seminars on Nano Technology, Dengue awareness, screening of "Soul of Fear" a telefilm, Directed by Mr. Hiru Amaraweera of the tutorial staff, Water Ballet, Water Rocket Display, staging of “KohombaKankariya”, Sokari, Nadagam and devolmaduwa performed by the oriental dancing group, a live radio station “CUBE FM 96.1” by the media club which was re-named “Lasantha Wickrematunge Media Unit” were presented throughout the day. The evening programmes included talent shows by the students of the primary section, Gymnastic show, choral performance by the College Choir, musical entertainments by the College western Band, “White Blood” a group consisting of grade 12 students, “Teen Generation” consisting of students from grade 9, Old Benedictine Band “Super Bens” with Mohan Raj from “Apsaras”, Musical show by the Army Band “Singha Regiment” with guest artist from Super Star and Dream Star fames and an amusement show by Mr. Bean (Local).
A gala musical show “Benedictine Splash” was organized on the final day 17th September, by the old boys
featuring popular old Benedictine Bands, ‘Mirage’, ‘Rebels’ and a choral presentation by the world renowned all Benedictine choir “VoicePrint” with guest artist, old Benedictines Trevin Joseph and Ashok Anton. The proceeds from this exhibition will be diverted towards the new classroom building project. The electronic media sponsors were MTV Channels (Pvt) Ltd, MBC Networks (Pvt) Ltd, (Sirasa TV, Sirasa FM, Yes FM, Y FM, Shakthi TV, Shathi FM while the print media sponsors were Wijeya Newspapers (Sunday Times, Daily Mirror, Lankadeepa and Financial Times)
