OBU WA, Australia - Get-together
AlumniThe good old school days when the Benedictine diet was thosai and sambaal were relived when the Old Boys in Western Australia got together for a Thosai Evening at the Filipino Club in Perth.

The get-together, organised by chef Mario Mendis and Gerard Gnanaselvam, attracted 30 people - old boys and their wives - and a good time was had by all.

Senior old boy Hilarion Caspersz started off proceedings with a prayer and tribute to all those Old Benedictines who had passed on, specially Roger Joachim and Dion Raymond who were actively involved with the Old Bens in Perth.

Saliya Goonewardene then briefed the gathering on the progress made to strengthen the Benedictine presence in Western Australia since the last get-together where a six-member committee comprising Hilarion Caspersz as interim chairman, Gerard Gnanaselvam as interim treasurer, Saliya Goonewardene as interim Secretary along with Max Gerryn, Ken Jansen and Terrance Paranawitane was appointed to explore the possibilities of forming an association.
Saliya said that there were various hurdles to be cleared before a constitution was drawn up and the association registered under Western Australian State Laws.

But the committee had been successful in contacting all those who had had even a minor association with St Benedict's and forming a group comprising 20 old boys who had made a firm commitment to be part of the Benectine fraternity in WA.

Whilst activity in WA was being publicised in the main Benedictine website as well as the website managed by the UK old boys, the committee is also exploring the possibility of forming a website to be managed by the WA old boys. Saliya pointed out that it was important that all old boys who had made a commitment to join in the activities so that more events could be organised to meet more frequently.

The singing of the college song brought the formal side of the get-together to an end before the Old Boys and their wives tucked into the Masala Vadai, Ulundu Vadai and the mouth-watering Thosai.
