Obituary - Old Benedictine and Soccer great, Alfred Dias
|It is with profound sadness we inform the sudden passing away of Old Benedictine and Soccer great, Alfred Dias at the age of 52.|
Remains lie at No. C/3/3, S.A. Garden (Sanchiarachchi Watte), Colombo 12.
Funeral will take place on Thursday, 10th March 2016 at 4.00 p.m. for burial at the General Cemetery, (Kanatte), Borella, Catholic Section.
Late Alfred, born on 24th March 1963, Captained St. Benedict’s College Soccer Team that won the Brazil Cup Championship in 1980 and went on to represent the Sri Lanka National Team from 1981 to 1991. He also represented Old Bens Sports Club and Saunders Sports Club.
Late Alfred, who was ably coached and molded by veteran Soccer giant, player and coach late Edward Jayawardene, just concluded playing in the inaugural Old Bens vs Old Mazenodians over 50’s soccer match played for the Edward Jayawardene memorial challenge trophy yesterday, when he suddenly fell ill and bid goodbye to his fellow players in the dressing room at De Mazenod College, grounds Kandana.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace, Amen.
