Rugby - St. Benedict’s College clinch “Chairman’s Trophy”
St. Benedict’s College emerged champions at the Schools under 19 knockout Rugby Tournament played for the Milo “Chairman’s Trophy”, crushing Nalanda College in the finals by 37 points ( 7 Tries & 1 Conversion) to 12 (2 Tries & 1 Conversion) played at the Royal College Sports Complex grounds yesterday. (14th July)

Bens taking a comfortable 22-7 lead in the first half, scored through fly half Nimesh Silva and flanker Luke Perera who scored a hat-trick of tries, with scrum half Malith Deshan converting. In the second half, Bens scored through Luke Perera which was followed by No 8 Dilan Pushpakumara. Luke Perera fittingly finished off the game in style when he went over for his fifth try to give his side a comfortable win and the title.

In the Semi-Finals, Bens beat St. John’s College by 14 to 12

The tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Union was conducted in three divisions, with Issipathana College beating Royal College to win the President’s Trophy, while Prince of Wales College won the Premier Trophy beating Ananda College and St. Benedict’s College winning the Chairman’s Trophy, beating Nalanda College.
