Rain a spoiler in the BENS - MAZENODIANS encounter
Heavy overnight rain with water seeping through the covers on to the wicket, delayed the start of the match on both days where only 108 overs were possible in the first XI cricket encounter between De Mazenod College and St. Benedict’s College played for the La Sallian Challenge Trophy, donated by Rev. Bro. Provincial Visitor - De La Salle Brothers, on 15th & 16th March 2013 at Kotahena.
The match commenced on day one only at 3.00 p.m. and the Mazenodians taking first lease of the wicket, crawled to finish the day on 74 for 4 in 34 overs. Day two commenced at 1.00 pm and the Mazenodians continued and declared at 149 for 9 in 75 overs. The Benedictines, who were able to bat only for 33 overs, scored a brisk 129 for 5.
The trophy presented by Rev. Bro. Denzil Perera was shared by the two teams. A large crowed of present and old boys from both schools witnessed the match in a friendly atmosphere, cheering their respective schools.
The De La Salle brothers including the Directors of both schools too were present to witness this event.
De Mazenod College: 149 for 9 in 75 overs
