Benedictine Journalist Sunesh Rodrigo to attend IVLP in the U.S.A.
OBU, ColomboBenedictine Sunesh Rodrigo became the only Sri Lankan journalist selected to participate at the International Visitor Leadership Programme 2012 (IVLP) in the U.S. A.

Launched in 1940, The International Visitor Leadership Programme is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program that seeks to build mutual understanding between the U.S. and other nations through carefully designed short-term visits to the U.S. for current and emerging foreign leaders.

Since its inception thousands of distinguished individuals have participated in the International Visitor Leadership Programme, including 330 current and former Chiefs of State and Heads of Government, thousands of Cabinet-level ministers, and many other distinguished leaders from the public and private sectors.

The Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists which falls under the IVLP brings emerging leaders from around the world to examine journalistic practices in the United States. The program is an innovative public-private partnership between the Department of State and several top U.S. schools of journalism. The 2012 program is scheduled to be held from October 29-November 16 primarily focusing on the November 6th US Presidential Election.

During this programme, Sunesh will be permitted to cover all proceedings of the crucial ‘Road to White House’ directly from the United States. He is also scheduled to meet several top diplomats, policy makers and politicians both in Washington DC and New York. It is noteworthy that the Department of State will also facilitate a trip to Illinois, President Barack Obama’s home state.
Sunesh would like to share this significant achievement with the entire Benedictine fraternity, and is honoured to state that if not for the education, discipline and the guidance received from College from young days, he wouldn't have been able to obtain the said fellowship. Sunesh would like to thank the entire Benedictine fraternity for the unstinted support rendered to him at all times.

On behalf of the entire Benedictine fraternity, I take this opportunity to wish our energetic and versatile Old Ben Sunesh, good luck in his endeavor to reach greater heights in his career and also wish him good health and God’s Blessings in abundance.
